Director of Research and Evaluation

Throughout its 15-year history, The Dovetail Project has utilized data to inform its programming and assess its impact on the lives of fathers and families. As we prepare to expand our programming in the coming years, we recognize that enhancing our internal capacity for research and evaluation will be crucial for achieving this goal in a sustainable manner. We seek a Director of Research and Evaluation with the energy, passion, vision, skills, and experience necessary to lead this vital new phase of our work. This individual will establish and develop this department from the ground up. Responsibilities will include implementing systems for monitoring and evaluating program quality; designing, executing, and analyzing surveys and other data collection methods to assess needs and shape programming; collaborating with organizational leadership to integrate research into programmatic curricula; managing research grants and budgets; and cultivating and managing strategic external partnerships. We are looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic about our mission and work and brings the expertise and creativity necessary to build a robust internal research capacity within our organization, thereby advancing our objectives.   • • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments with program participants, identifying their individual goals

    and support needs.

    • Develop and implement individualized case management plans, including connecting participants with

    relevant resources such as housing, employment, education, and healthcare.

    • Provide ongoing support and guidance to participants as they navigate challenges and achieve their

    goals.

    • Assist participants in accessing and utilizing community resources, including mental health services,

    financial assistance, and legal aid.

    • Advocate for participants with external agencies and service providers.

    • Work with organizational staff to identify mental health needs among program participants

    • Monitor participant progress and make adjustments to case plans as needed.

    • Maintain accurate and confidential client records.

    • Participate in program development and staff training.

    • Represent The Dovetail Project at community events and conferences as needed.

    • Assist participants with home visits and doctor visits as needed.

  • Preferred Qualifications

    •Lead and build out the organization’s research and evaluation department

    • Designing, implement, and direct research and evaluation activities as pertaining to programming,

    organizational objectives, needs assessments, and other areas

    • Support grant writing and reporting efforts by collecting, analyzing, and presenting required and/or

    relevant data pertaining to program participants and outcomes

    • Facilitates data collection and analysis for research projects. Performs literature reviews and assists in

    writing reports and manuscripts. Ensures compliance with various policies, procedures, directives, and

    regulations relevant to the project.

    • Work with organizational staff to shape and update programming to reflect emergent needs and best

    practices rooted in research

    • Generate research reports and communicate with organizational leadership around the impact of

    programming and areas for continued improvement

    • Strategize with organizational leadership around implications of program scaling and replication for

    research and evaluation

    • Create and manage research and evaluation–related partnerships with external partners

    • Takes responsibility for various non-laboratory duties, including transcribing and coding data,

    developing data collection instruments, presenting research, and recruiting and scheduling research

    subjects.

    • The Director of Research will report to the Executive Director.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Social Work (MSW), or graduate degree in a related field

    • Five years of experience with program evaluation, research, or data analysis in public health, social

    services, university, or related settings

    • Strong analytical skills and experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis and the use of data

    to inform decision and achieve strategic objectives

    • Expertise in developing data collection tools appropriate for given tasks and objectives

    • Expertise in a wide range of data analysis tools and software

    • Ability to present material and represent the organization in diverse external environments

    • Capacity to generate research and evaluation data in support of grant applications and reports

    • Experience creating and managing external partnerships

    • Experience working with urban communities of color and/or commitment to the organization’s mission

    • Possess the creativity, vision, and the capacity to help build something new

    • Ability to be both self-directed and collaborative as neededPreferred Qualifications:

    • Expertise in child development, family dynamics, and/or public health

    • Experience in curricular design

    • Strong interest in social policy.

    • Experience with applied statistics, data analysis, or machine learning/predictive analytics preferred.

    Proficiency with one or more languages such as R, Stata, Python, or SAS.

    • Experience in qualitative research and analysis.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas in a simple

    straightforward way

    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    • Demonstrated capacity to work independently in an organized, detailed manner, while maintaining a

    collaborative team environment. Self-starter with ability to take initiative to move projects forward.

    • Excellent data visualization ability.

    • Ability to work discretely with sensitive and confidential data.

    • Strong computer skills including the ability to effectively use software applications such as Microsoft

    Office suite.

    • Bilingual in Spanish and English

    Experience:

    • Knowledge and skills developed through at least five years of relevant research experience. Experience

    gained in school counts towards this

    • Experience collecting and managing qualitative and quantitative datasets

    • Experience working on field experiments and/or randomized controlled trials

    • Coursework in econometrics and/or mathematical statistics

Behavioral Health Specialist

Location: Chicago, IL.

We seek a compassionate and skilled Behavioral Health Specialist to provide comprehensive support services to young fathers (ages 17-24) participating in our program. These young men often come from marginalized communities and may face challenges related to poverty, trauma, and systemic barriers. The ideal candidate will possess strong case management skills, a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by this population, and the ability to connect participants with appropriate resources. This role involves guiding and supporting participants as they navigate their personal and professional goals.

    • Experience working with at-risk youth, particularly young fathers or individuals facing barriers to

    success.

    • Bilingual/multilingual proficiency (if applicable to the target population).

The Dovetail Project is seeking a highly motivated Program Specialist to lead a transformative initiative aimed at significantly impacting the lives of young fathers. This position requires a dynamic and multifaceted educator capable of delivering exemplary instruction, proactively recruiting participants, establishing robust community partnerships, and providing intensive, individualized support to aid individuals in their personal and professional development. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a profound commitment to community engagement and a passion for empowering fathers aged 17 to 24 to achieve their fullest potential.

  • Program Instruction:

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instructional sessions according to the established curriculum.

    • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate the diverse learning needs of participants.

    • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

    • Facilitate interactive activities, discussions, and practical projects.

    • Monitor participant progress and provide constructive feedback.

    • Maintain accurate records related to attendance, participation, and program outcomes.

    Participant Recruitment & Engagement:

    • Engage in community outreach activities to identify and recruit prospective participants.

    • Cultivate relationships with community partners to promote programs.

    Direct Services:

    • Deliver direct support services to program participants, which may include:

    • Transportation assistance

    • Home visits

    • Basic needs assistance (as applicable within program scope)

    Program Development:

    • Provide input on program evaluation and identify areas for improvement.

    • Explore and propose new program ideas that align with The Dovetail Project's mission.

    Administrative Duties:

    • Prepare necessary reports and documentation related to program activities.

  • Minium Qualifications:

    • A bachelor’s degree in Education, Social work, Human Services, or a related field is preferred.
